SCENIC SIGHTS IN THE NORTH

Devonport is the entrance of Tasmania if you come from the mainland.

LAUNCESTON
The typical scenary of Tasmanian towns are brick houses with chimneys and slopes. You will find that Launceston is the one. The town itself is small, though it is the second largest town in Tasmania, so you take an hour walk-around and see almost everything.
In this town, the most attrative views are in Cataract Gorge which is a five minute walk from the town center. The trekking course goes through the cliffs along South Esk River. You may find a small wallaby jumping in a bush on the way.
There are 19th-century watermills and windmills in Penny Royal World which is located near the entrance of the Gorge.

DEVONPORT
Actually, there is nothing special to see, but a lot of tourists get into this town from the main land by ferry, so it is fun to talk with them and drink together over night.

CRADLE MOUNTAIN
After you drive for a two and half hours from Launceston, there is a famous place to see Cradle Mountain. It is Lake Dove. The mountain is certainly a magnificent view over the lake. Quite many guide books have the same pictures on them. However it is a small chance to see it in a whole day because the weather is so changable in this area.

CATARACT GORGE
About a five minute walk from town center takes you there.
